Introduction
Wedding reception games are a great way to keep your guests entertained! And of course, they are the perfect way to have some fun with all your loved ones. So not sure which one is the best for you? Check out these 5 games, pick one and let the fun begin!
All in the picture
This is by far my favourite among all the wedding games, and it’s pretty straightforward.
The game consists of picking a fast-paced song of about 3 minutes and trying to get pictures of the bride and groom with every single guest attending the reception. The best way to do this is to find a nice location within your reception (don’t stress about it and leave that to your photographer) and pick a pretty hectic song. Then, instruct all the guests to jump in the picture, pose and move on in as little time as possible.
This is my favourite game for many reasons. It’s fun to see people rushing around to grab a pic with you and you’d be surprised to see the crazy poses your guests will come out with. Plus, this way you are also sure to get a picture with every single person attending your big day.
If you are having a bigger wedding with more than 200 guests, pick a song of about 4/5 minutes to allow more time for everyone to get a picture without pushing people around!
The shoe game
This is a fun game where the bride and groom are the absolute protagonists. You and your loved one will be sitting on a chair giving your back to each other, and you’ll be holding two shoes in your hand, one belonging to the groom, and one belonging to the bride.
You’ll have to instruct someone from your bridal party to come up with funny questions about your relationship. Usually, the go-to are the best man or the maid of honour, or people who know you very well. They will be asking questions like “Who snores the most at night?” or “Who takes the longest to get ready in the morning?”. They could come up with even more cheeky questions like “Who’s the most crappy driver between you two?”. Then, the bride and the groom have to reply simultaneously.
Since you’re giving each other your back, you won’t be able to see right away what’s your partner’s reply. This game is quite funny because the couple always has different opinions about the questions, and your guests will for sure have a good laugh about it.
The longest together
This is probably one of the cutest wedding reception games and it works best if you have a big, tight family. In this case, the bride and the groom are not the main protagonists. The purpose of the game is to find out which one is the couple that has been together the longest among all your guests.
In my opinion, the best moment for this game is right after your first dance. The DJ asks the couple to have their first dance and after that, they invite all the guests to the dance floor. After 30 seconds or so, the DJ will instruct all the couples that have been together for less than a year to leave the dance floor. After another 30 seconds, he’ll ask couples that have been together for less than 5 years to leave the dance floor. And so on until you get to couples that have been together for less than 40/50 years.
The last standing is usually grandmas and grandpas and you can bet once they are the last ones dancing, all your guests will go ballistic with cheers and claps!
Again, here the bride and the groom are not the main focus. However, this is a great way if you are close to your family and want to celebrate the milestones of your eldest ones.
Wedding wheel
Want to create a bit of fun and see how your guests react to different prompts? Hire a wedding wheel or get a DIY from Etsy.
The wheel can instruct people to have a kiss, come up with their funniest pose or dance like worms on the spot! The fun begins when you ask your guests to spin the wheel and see what’s their reaction. Make sure to place the wheel in a good-looking spot so your pics will look the best!
And if you are not sure about where to put it, simply ask your trusted photographer.
Stand up, Sit down
Among all the wedding reception games, this is probably the biggest ice-breaker. Basically, this is a big group questionnaire game that involves all your guests.
How to play? Simply instruct someone to come up with a bunch of fairly personal questions. This could be the best man or maid of honour, your mum and dad, or you could even decide the questions yourself. You’ll have to instruct your guests to stand if their reply is “yes” or sit if they reply “no”.
At the end of the game, each table will know more interesting facts about their dinner neighbours and also the bride and the groom. A great ice-breaker and an even better conversation starter!
