Is John Oldham Park a good location to get take some nice images?
It was April 2019 and I had just started my wedding photography business here in Perth, Western Australia.
While studying photography at North Metro Tafe I started advertising my business online. After a few enquiries, I finally got my first booking with Hazel and Lemuel. This young couple was looking for a photographer for their engagement shoot.
My first client ever!
As soon as we booked the shooting, I started to feel…panic. What did I need to organise? Would I be able to photograph a couple I had never met before? What was I thinking about booking this?
Luckily I soon realised that with planning and dedication anything can be achieved. It is said that wedding photography, and an engagement shoot too, are some of the hardest genres to master.
Therefore planning is essential, especially if you were a beginner like me! So I decided to have a long stroll at the agreed location about a week before the shoot: the beautiful and surprisingly secluded John Oldham Park. I wanted to get a better idea of all the possible locations I would use for my couple’s portraits in the park.
Through my images, I wanted to show love, affection and attachment. Hazel and Lemuel were a young, kind and energic couple and they were just about to start a long end exciting journey together.
Thankfully, the park offered many angles and scenarios perfect for the kind of photos I wanted to achieve. John Oldham Park is a truly beautiful location, where you can just get a break in the shade of beautiful trees, walk on narrow paths that stretch along the lake or enjoy the view of a stunning waterfall.
This is a collection of some of my favourite images from the day, I hope you like it. To Hazel and Lemuel, thank you for your patience and kindness, I wish you the best for your life together.
