How Many Wedding Photos Should You Get?

June 22, 2022

How many wedding photos should you get? Most of the couples that get in touch with me have no idea what to expect for their wedding photography.

I have been asked this question so many times that I decided to include it on my FAQ page!

In this article, I will explain what influences the number of images you will get delivered by your wedding photographer. Also, we will discuss what’s the average number of images to expect after you have tied the knot.

Ready? Let’s go!

What influences the number of photos

There are several things that can determine how many wedding photos should you get. The most important and easy to understand is of course the amount of hours the photographer is there with you covering your wedding.

If the photographer sticks around for 10 hrs, they will be able to capture way more images than if they documented your wedding for only one hour.

So far, so good. But what else can influence the number?

The ability and creativity of the photographer will also play an important role. More experienced wedding photographers know how to get the most out of any situation, regardless of location, couple and weather.

Some beginner wedding photographers instead might not be able to do the same, resulting in fewer images being delivered.

Also, the schedule of the event will influence the final number.  If you are celebrating a wedding with lots of stuff going on (games, lots of speeches, different locations etc.), you will most certainly get tons of photos.

If there’s less glamour happening, you will probably get fewer images.

As I mentioned before, a lot depends on the experience and style of the photographer, and also on the type of event.

After shooting weddings for over 3 years, I can give you some reference numbers for you to keep in mind. My most popular package is an 8 hrs coverage that is more than enough to document your day from start to finish.

Couple that book this package can expect to receive between 600 to 900 final images.

My 4 hours package is perfect for elopements and intimate weddings. If you book this package you will receive between 300 to 500 images.

Conclusion

When it comes to wedding photography, quality matters, not quantity. Would you prefer having a handful of amazing photos or a lot of average, if not bad shots?

However, wedding photography is expensive and knowing how many wedding photos should you get is important.

As you have seen, there are many factors that can influence the final number of images delivered.

As a general rule though, you can expect to receive about 100 images for every hour of photography coverage.

What’s more important for you, quantity or quality? Let me know in the comments below.

Ciao!
